Opinion: ‘We Are Going to Keep You Safe, Even if It Kills Your Spirit’

On 19 February 2021 the New York Times published an article ‘We Are Going to Keep You Safe, Even if It Kills Your Spirit’. This piece tells the impact on those living with dementia in understanding and coping with the changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. The challenges for both those in long-term care facilities as well as those living at home with family caregivers are numerous, and answers are few.

IPA President, Dr. William Reichman shared his thoughts on behalf of the IPA in this opinion piece published today: Opinion letters: Dementia During the Covid Pandemic and we encourage you to read through his response.

It is the belief of IPA leadership that it is important IPA "contribute to the public dialogue around issues germane to geriatric mental health, dementia and care giving" as it fits the IPA mission: To advance our members and the geriatric mental health of older people everywhere through education, research, professional development, advocacy, health promotion and service development.
