COVID-19 Preparedness and IPA Congress

Update on COVID-19 Preparedness at the IPA 2020 Congress:
Message from IPA President, Dr. William Reichman

The International Psychogeriatric Association is taking COVID-19 very seriously and is fully engaged and prepared to host a successful Congress as planned on 2-5 October in Lisbon.

IPA leadership is monitoring COVID-19 and the organizers plan for registration to open in April.  As the situation with COVID-19 continues to evolve, IPA leadership will continue to meet to discuss what developments have occurred and ensure we have the ability to respond in a way that is best for our attendees. IPA is exploring the option to host portions of the meeting virtually if the need arises.

The IPA recognizes each of you as esteemed leaders of our multidisciplinary field and in your specific jurisdictions, broadly looked to for especially informed guidance, empathic support and thoughtful reassurance and unique wisdom. It is during such times, that leaders like us, as lonely as it can feel, must rise to the occasion. I just ask you to consider to the extent possible, to be a source of support to each other. We will do our very best to ensure that IPA stays focused on our mission and its critical goal-oriented imperatives, and that we will do what we can to relentlessly advocate for our patients and their families.

In response to the current situation, IPA has extended the abstract deadlines:

  • Free/oral abstracts - 10 April 2020
  • Poster abstract submissions - 15 May 2020
